On July 5, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended an event presenting Fujian held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which he introduced the book Up and Out of Poverty to diplomatic envoys of various countries attending the event.

Wang Yi expressed that on seeing the book displayed at the Fujian exhibition hall, I wanted to make a special promotion here to all diplomatic envoys of various countries. As early as 31 years ago when President Xi Jinping was the Secretary of Prefectural Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Fujian, he took the lead in leading the local people to start the process of poverty alleviation. He devoted a lot of efforts in the process and implemented the CPC's purpose of serving the people, which not only accumulated successful experience for poverty alleviation in Fujian, but also set a good example for the whole country's poverty alleviation cause. President Xi Jinping compiled his experience in poverty alleviation into the book Up and Out of Poverty. We have discussed this book with friends from Africa. And I still remember some important ideas and thoughts in the book, such as poverty alleviation requires a change of attitude and the support of education, meaning that poverty alleviation should begin with setting ambitions and courage, and cultivating knowledge and wisdom needed in poverty alleviation. These are of great reference significance not only to China, but also to many developing countries on the road of poverty alleviation.

Wang Yi stressed that China has made remarkable achievements in poverty alleviation. Poverty alleviation is the top priority of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations. China's successful experience and practices will certainly make increasingly important contributions to the global poverty alleviation.
