Wang Yi Meets with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son

On July 4, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on the sidelines of the seventh Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Bagan, Myanmar.

Wang Yi said that at present, the changes unseen in a century are accelerating and global challenges are constantly emerging. As friendly socialist neighbors and important forces in emerging markets and developing countries, China and Vietnam share a high degree of common strategic interests. The two sides should maintain strategic communication, deepen strategic cooperation, make efforts toward building a community with a shared future, work hand in hand and forge ahead on the new journey of developing socialism in line with respective national conditions, and make greater contributions to peace and prosperity in the region and the world. Bui Thanh Son congratulated China on its remarkable achievements in national development under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core. He wished the 20th National Congress of the CPC a full success and believes that China will successfully achieve its second centenary goal. Vietnam and China have a high degree of mutual trust in politics and maintain a smooth advance in practical cooperation. The Vietnamese side has always regarded its relations with China as the top priority in its foreign strategy and is willing to maintain high-level exchanges and strategic communication with China to promote new breakthroughs in cooperation in various fields.

Wang Yi said the 20th National Congress of the CPC will certainly be a united, progressive and victorious conference, which will provide a strong impetus for China to accelerate the achievement of its second centenary goal, and will also further strengthen the cause of socialism and promote human peace and progress. China is accelerating the building of a new development paradigm and implementing high-quality opening up to the outside world, which will bring more dividends to the Vietnamese side and create better conditions for cooperation between the two countries. China and Vietnam should share opportunities, seek common development, maintain stability and create prosperity together.

The two sides expressed the willingness to take the upcoming 14th Meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation in China as an opportunity to comprehensively sort out and promote cooperation between the two countries in various fields in a coordinated manner.

The two sides positively evaluated the "Railway Express" mode of China-Vietnam freight trains to achieve cross-regional two-way traffic and stressed the need to improve customs clearance efficiency, so as to facilitate the flow of people and goods.

The two sides agreed to speed up livelihood projects that meet the needs of the people and are highly operational and socially beneficial, so as to enhance the friendship of the two peoples and consolidate the public support of friendship between the two countries.

The two sides also communicated on issues related to the South China Sea and agreed to take the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea this year as an opportunity to actively promote the consultation process of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea. Both sides uphold the high-level consensus, properly handle conflicts and differences, and promote maritime cooperation.
